Speaking Ministry

My purpose for speaking is because life is tough.  I want to bring laughter, encouragement, and more than anything, to bring the message of Christ.  I love to challenge those who think they have nothing to give and encourage those who know they do!

Proverbs 17:22 – “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Approximately 8-9 months after being released from the hospital in June 2008, I started a Christian band that was booked to play in Indiana with several other bands.  It was my first show as a “legally blind drummer.”

The promoter/organizer of that event called me to give me information about the show and during that conversation, I told him bits and pieces of my story.

At that show is where it all started.  We did our set and started to move our equipment off the stage so the next band could set up.  During the breakdown, the organizer asked me if I’d like to give about a 10-minute testimony while the other band was setting up.  I was more than excited to do so, but I wasn’t prepared because this was out of the blue.  So, I just said what was on my heart.
I spoke for a few minutes and figured that was it, but it wasn’t.  I had some people come to me afterward and their responses simply blew me away.
As an example: One senior citizen sent his daughter to me and she said, “My dad told me to find you and say ‘thank you.’  He said he really needed to hear what you had to say.”

That was an incredible blessing to me!     I was in absolute awe at how God used me in that moment.

Not long after that first concert in Indiana, and while at home, I was talking to my wife about how blown away I was at the responses.  She asked, “Do you think God is calling you to the speaking ministry?”  I responded with, “Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking!"

... And the speaking ministry was born.
Another example is when I spoke at a music festival with Disciple headlining.  A man literally ran up to me once I came out from behind the stage and said, “Thank you!  I thought I was here to see Disciple, but I wasn’t!  I was here to see you!  I was feeling so distant from God, but now I’m back!”  I was so humbled and astounded!

Since that day, I have been able to speak at different events, to a variety of groups, etc.  Some of those examples are:

  • Christian music festivals
  • A church Revival
  • Sunday morning church services
  • Wednesday night church service
  • Youth groups
  • A middle school basketball team
  • A high school football team
  • WJCR Radio
